The Inventors Academy Level 3
The Inventors Academy Level 3 is available as a six-month coaching program to enable corporations to identify, capture, nurture, and monetize intellectual property that is developed within their organisation.
Most corporations have intellectual property available to them. Some find this innovation from within, developed by the employees and contractors in the process of delivering products or services to others. Some find innovation outside, which they would like to acquire, nurture and monetize. This course provides a clear structure and a step-by-step procedure for establishing an in-house incubator for identifying and capturing these intellectual property opportunities.
The program is designed to help establish an IP incubator which can then audit the organisation to identify opportunities and later to work with the inventors to ensure the intellectual property is owned by the organisation and has a clear path to market with recognition or reward for the inventor.
There are six key steps to the commercialization of organizational intellectual property which can be identified, captured and commercialised.
This eight-week course is designed for IP portfolio managers or experienced research and development managers within an organisation, to enable the establishment of a structure and incorporation of a process which will automate the capture, nurture and monetization process for intellectual property.
These steps are:
- Finding the Opportunities
- Assessment and Planning
- Ownership and Protection
- Selecting the Desired Outcome(s)
- Implementing a Commercial Pathway
- Automating the Process - nationally or globally
How Level 3 Works:
The program is a combination of learning, training and practical implementation with four layers of distinctive, yet concurrent activities. The first is we start with an online self-paced learning program to provide a comprehensive understanding of the six steps of IP Incubation. This is in an easy-to-learn format of video-based learning, supplemented with articles, case studies, checklists, templates and exercises, to make sure the team develops a firm understanding of how the process works.
When the first module of this course is completed, you will be invited to book a 4-hour IP Innovation Management workshop with your team, so we can document your situation and map out your optimum structure. The key Incubation nominee will select attendees for this workshop, which is traditionally attended by R&D managers from various locations or known innovators who are expected to welcome this new process.
This workshop will produce a comprehensive organizational structure for the IP Incubator as well as an action plan for the next 6 months, to integrate the process into Company policy and procedures. The IP Incubator can be a person or a team, depending on the organization.

Once the workshop is complete, we plan your first IP Opportunity Audit for your first location. This may be scheduled as a global online program using TEAMS or ZOOM, featuring key personnel recruited from the workshop into the Incubation team. The entire six-week process from the changes in company policy to the assessment and acceptance of IP selected, will begin the incubation process for the company. The number of opportunities initially identified is generally an indication of whether the Incubation structure should be local, national or global.
Along the way, you will be meeting with us on our weekly live group coaching calls as well as reaching out for help (if you need it) in our private Facebook group. You will also have access to our library of tools and templates to make sure you are building your learning so you can apply this to the next transaction or even your next project. These live group coaching calls are every Tuesday morning (Australian time) or Monday afternoon/evening (US time) and run for a full six months of the program.
The core outcomes for each Incubator are to have established their suitable structures, procedures and personnel, as well as to have convened at least one IP Opportunity Audit – complete with legal, patent and technical assessments – and to then have structured and approved at least one project for funding and commercialization.
Your Additional Support
If a corporate incubator (person or group) requires assistance in the first six months, they can opt to engage with our Level 3 Mentors to organize and implement the structural and procedure changes, attend and/or chair the IP Opportunity Audit(s) and the Ideation and Commercial Modelling workshops, as well as to attend and/or chair your project status review meetings with each or one project, to ensure the process is embedded into the organisation.
The IP Opportunity Audits can vary in length and are best conducted locally, to ensure all opportunities are identified and discussed. A general rule for small to mid-size professional or production facilities is for a 4-hour audit, including a walk-around and discussions with the innovators. This is generally preceded by the questionnaires and the assessment meetings after, for project selection or release. If there is no additional cost for travel and other expenses, this task is charged at $3,500 per half-day audit and includes the time required to help the Incubator set up the event and then assess the opportunities.
The Ideation and Commercial Modelling workshops are generally a 4-hour workshop, preceded by the planning and research and then followed by the write-ups for the commercial model. As a stand-alone module, these (optional) engagements are charged at $3,500 each. These workshops are generally done via TEAMS or ZOOM but can be held in a location of choice. Any additional travel time and expense is chargeable at a rate to be negotiated.
Any casual or ongoing tasks or training can be incorporated into a pre-paid block of 10 hours, which are valid for two years and can be drawn against each task and each consultant/mentor – subject to availability.

Meet Daniel O'Connnor
Daniel commercialized his first invention in 1984 in Perth, Western Australia. He took this PC-based software from an idea to a pre-listed Company in under 3 years and then contracted to a local University on commercializing their emerging innovation. He has 38 years of experience in commercializing intellectual property, through funding, distribution, licensing and trade sales around the World.
In 2015, while on assignment in Burma for the UN Task Force for Innovation and Competitiveness, Daniel discovered a breakthrough in how innovation projects should be funded. He formulated the Cornerstone Investment model and created an online course for inventors World-Wide, who were not able to raise capital in the traditional ways and needed to learn a better way.
Today, Daniel works with Inventors online, through this affordable group coaching program, to help as many small R&D teams and independent inventors, to achieve their first cash-generating transactions and secure their projects financially.
Daniel is an author, speaker and writer with over 200 articles and 3 books published. He has a Bachelors degree in Business, an MBA in International Business and was a PhD candidate until recently. He is a professional Company Director and has served in public and private companies, listed and unlisted, in Australia and other Asian Countries.
